Good News for Sterling Cemetery

Sterling’s Gallup Cemetery was one of just 15 municipalities to receive state money from a Neglected Cemetery Account Grant.  It was fortunate that Sterling’s town officials acted quickly as this program is very popular and if they had acted slowly, they would not have received the grant.

From the Program’s website, the purpose of this program is to provide municipalities with an opportunity to receive financial assistance to reclaim and maintain neglected cemeteries.  Municipalities can apply for up to two-thousand dollars ($2,000) per year to be used:  to clear weeds, briars and bushes; to mow cemetery lawn areas; to repair fences and walls; to straighten memorial stones and to keep neglected cemeteries in an orderly and decent condition.
